How to Select Track Lighting Artwork

    • 1). Measure the width of the track lighting fixture. This width defines how wide your artwork of choice should be. Several track lighting units may not complement a single piece of art, and you may need several smaller works. The artwork you choose should look like it fits the track lighting's area of illumination.

    • 2). Calculate the maximum height the artwork can be. Track lights that sit low on the wall may have been designed to accommodate an elongated, narrow work of art. Evaluate how much vertical space you have to play with before purchasing artwork to hang beneath the track lights.

    • 3). Inspect the angle of illumination that the track lights emit. Flat art is best enjoyed when a source of illumination falls on it at a 30-degree angle. Ideally, the artwork's base, frame, or canvas should be thick enough for a viewer to look at it closely without enduring glare from the existing track lighting. Adjust your track lighting accordingly, if possible.

    • 4). Note the intensity of the existing track lighting bulbs. Select artwork that is suitable for the intensity of the bulbs in your existing track lights. High-intensity lamps and textile artwork are not a good combination, for instance. Replace track lighting lamps with lower-intensity bulbs, if you sense there is any risk of damaging an expensive work of art.
