- 1). Select the placement of the grain for the boards. Place the boards on a flat surface so that the long sides are parallel. These will be glued together. Rough the sides to be glued with the coarse sand paper. Clean the edges. Place glue along the edges. Clamp tightly. Remove excess glue that is squeezed out. Allow to dry.
- 2). Tape the paper over the half moon window. Use the pencil to draw an outline of the outer edge of the wooden frame. Remove the paper and place it on a flat surface. Cut out the outline.
- 3). Measure along the bottom straight edge and find the middle. Mark this point with the pencil. Fold the paper in half by bringing the two outer points of the straight bottom edge together, using this point. Unfold the paper
- 4). Place the paper pattern on the boards with the chosen direction of the grain in mind. Tape the pattern to the wood. Draw around the outer edge of the paper. Remove the paper. Fold the paper in half again. Position it on the glued boards so that it covers half of the pattern just drawn. Draw a line along the folded edge. Remove the paper.
- 5). Saw along all of the drawn lines. Sand with the 120 grit paper and clean.
- 6). Select one of the sections of boards (shutter). Measure up from the bottom straight edge of the glued boards, at the outside edge, 1 inch. Mark this point. Place the bottom edge of the hinge here so that the bottom edge of the hinge is parallel to the bottom straight edge of the shutter. Draw the outline of the hinge. Remove the hinge. Repeat for the other shutter. Note: the placement of the hinge depends upon the individual window frame, adjust as needed.
- 7). Chisel out the area on the shutter where the hinge is to be placed to a depth that is equal to the thickness of the hinge.
- 8). Place the hinge in the cut out area to check for fit. Adjust as needed. Mark openings for screws. Remove the hinge. Drill the screw holes.
- 9). Measure up one inch, from the bottom straight edge, on the right hand side, of the window and mark. (Note: the placement of the hinge depends upon the individual window frame, adjust as needed) Place the hinge so that the bottom edge is parallel to the bottom of the window frame. Draw around the hinge. Repeat for the left side.

Sand the shutters with the 220 grit sandpaper. Clean the shutters. - 13
Place the hinges on the shutters and insert the screws. - 14
Select a shutter. Hold up to the window frame and position the hinge into place. Insert the screws. Repeat for the other shutter.
