- Make it a Christmas to remember. Christmas is a time of family, friends and memories, but you can make it even more memorable by adding in your own special moments.
One idea is to invite your loved one to help you decorate the Christmas tree. String the lights, and then hand over that tell-tale velvet box, or perhaps a fake ornament with the engagement ring hidden inside. Launch into a declaration of your undying love as your beloved (hopefully) squeals with delight.
Another option is to hire a Santa (or enlist a good-natured friend or relative to play the part) to deliver a special gift to your spouse-to-be during your family gathering. Get down on one knee and explain that Santa is helping you fulfill your Christmas wish: to spend the rest of your days with the love of your life. - New Year's Eve is another family- and friend-filled event that can be made all the more exciting with a marriage proposal, both now and in years to come as you remember the special occasion.
You can go the traditional route by slipping the ring into your significant other's champagne glass and waiting for her to notice the ring before asking for her hand in marriage. To add a little more pizazz to your proposal, wait until the clock strikes midnight and then, after a sizzling New Year's smooch, drop to one knee and present the glass with the ring inside. What a way to start the new year ... and your new life together! - Valentine's Day, being the day of love, is a very popular choice when it comes to proposing on a holiday. You can present the ring during dinner at her favorite restaurant, or you can get a little creative with your proposal. Turn off all the lights in your home and use a path of candles to guide her to where you are waiting on one knee, engagement ring in hand. Of course, be sure that you have any safety precautions in place and a fire extinguisher handy, just in case your candlelit path gets out of control.
- Plastic Easter eggs can be the perfect hiding space for an engagement ring--and since Easter isn't considered one of the romantic holidays, your loved one might not be expecting a proposal, making for a true surprise and remarkable stories for years to come. To propose on Easter, just hide the ring in an Easter egg and hide it somewhere within your house or yard. Be sure to hide it somewhere memorable, or write the location down so you have no chance of forgetting where your pricey hideaway is. Tell your loved one that you want her to get in on the action and have hidden a gift just for her. You can even turn it into a game, telling her when she's hot and cold to help direct her to the hiding spot.
- Start your new life together with a bang on the patriotic holiday of the 4th of July. Take her to watch a spectacular fireworks show, and during the grand finale, ask the light of your life for her hand in marriage. For an extra surprise, pretend to take pictures of the exploding lights, and then show her the camera to peruse your handiwork. Instead of lights, though, she'll see a picture you took of yourself holding a sign asking her to marry you (in red, white and blue letters, of course). Before the shock wears off, you can tell her that you want to spend every 4th of July with her, as long as you both shall live.
