- 1). Open Photoshop and create a new letter-sized document by selecting "File > New" and selecting "U.S. Paper" from the "Preset" menu. Set the "Size" menu to "Letter." This is the standard paper or document size for a résumé.
- 2). Select the "Type Tool" from the Tools Panel on the left side of your screen. Click and drag with the tool to create a text box that will contain your résumé's header (name, contact information, etc.). Select the "Character" palette at the right of your screen, or select "Window > Character" from the application menu. Set character preferences, such as font, size, tracking and others before typing in the box. You can always adjust them later.
- 3). Type the desired contact information in your paragraph box. You can click and drag over text with your cursor to select it for character changes. Click and drag outside the box to reposition it where you like, and click and drag the anchor points around the box to adjust the size. Click the checkmark icon when your paragraph box appears as you want it.
- 4). Repeat steps 2 and 3 for any additional or separate boxes you may want to create for other text that will not appear as the body of the résumé.
- 5). Click and drag a new text box with the "Type Tool" that will represent the body of your résumé.
- 6). Open the file containing your résumé body text. Select "Edit > Select All" and then "Edit > Copy" from your text program's application menu. Return to Photoshop and select "Edit > Paste" in the body text box.
- 7). Highlight your body text and make desired character adjustments in the "Character" palette. Click and drag outside the box to reposition it and click and drag anchor points to adjust size. Click the checkmark icon once again to commit your changes to the text box. Select the "Layers" palette to select layers containing your other text boxes so you can make any other late adjustments.
- 8). Select "File > Save As" and select "Photoshop PDF" from the "Format" menu. Click "Save." This is the best format available in Photoshop for a text document and can later be converted to .doc or other text formats if necessary. Set your desired PDF preferences in the resulting dialog box and click "Save PDF."
