Rather than just being content with losing weight, we need to look at how the diet we choose may affect our health.
And then select the healthiest way to lose weight.
It is very tempting when embarking on a diet to buy into the "lose 10 pounds in 10 days" hype.
Who wouldn't want to be able to do that? But realistically it is just not possible to lose a real pound each and every day.
When you attempt to do something so radical you throw your body's systems into turmoil, only to discover that most of the weight loss is simply water loss.
When you return to normal eating, this weight quickly returns.
Plain and simple, the healthiest way to lose weight is to eat in a healthy way.
Here are a few ways to achieve this.
- To lose weight you need to cut down on the quantity of food eaten.
We often tend to eat until we are past full.
Stop eating as soon as you longer feel hungry.
Then wait a few minutes.
If you still feel as if you need to eat more, then do so.
But chances are, you will be full at this point. - If you eat slowly, the tendency to overeat is reduced because you will feel full.
If you eat too quickly you may eat far more than you need because your brain will not have a chance to register that you are full. - Too many of us are in such a hurry when we eat that we almost inhale our food.
Take the time to chew your food thoroughly.
You will feel like you are eating more than you actually are by doing this. - Drink at least a full glass of water with each meal.
Put a lemon slice in it if you want something with more flavor.
Sip on it after every few bites of food.
It will fill you up and leave less room for food. - Eat breakfast each and every day without fail.
The word breakfast means that you are eating after fasting all night.
It is important to do this because you are providing your body with fuel to get you going.
Having breakfast also fires up your metabolism which will result in more calories being burned throughout the day. - Be sure to eat a balanced diet.
A balanced diet means including protein like meats, eggs, cheese, several servings of fruit and vegetables, some whole grains from cereal or bread, and a small amount of fat in your daily meals.
A balanced diet does not need to include lots of fatty or sugary foods or beverages.
So avoid "junk foods". - Especially while dieting, include a multivitamin to be sure that you are getting the recommended daily amounts of vitamins, minerals and nutrients.
- Instead of three big meals a day, eat smaller meals and some healthy snacks in between.
This will help you avoid becoming too hungry before eating which often leads to overeating. - Avoid eating after about 7:30 in the evening.
Implementing just this one idea will make a big difference in your weight loss in the long run.
