How to Bleach Dye a Shirt

    • 1). Cover the work surface with plastic garbage bags.

    • 2). Label the buckets with the marker -- two for water, one for the neutralizing chemical and one for bleach.

    • 3). Arrange the buckets in the order they will be used: bleach, water, neutralizing chemical and water.

    • 4). Fill the two water buckets with water. These will be used to rinse the shirt.

    • 5). Mix the neutralizing chemical according to the package directions and put it in the labeled bucket. Prepare at least 4 gallons of neutralizing agent.

    • 6). Make the bleach solution in the corresponding bucket, using 1 quart of bleach for 2 quarts of water.

    • 7). Soak the shirt in the bleach mixture. Soaking for longer than ten minutes can damage the fabric.

    • 8). Remove the shirt from the bleach, using gloves, when the shirt is as light as desired. The shirt will appear slightly darker because it is wet.

    • 9). Soak the shirt in the first water bucket for least three minutes.

    • 10

Soak the shirt in the neutralizing chemical for three minutes, or according to the package directions.

    • 11

Soak the shirt in the second water bucket for three minutes.

    • 12

      Air-dry the shirt.
