A 30th birthday is an occasion worthy of a large celebration. This milestone of adulthood is a great time to spend with close friends, and a house party can be a fun way to celebrate without breaking the bank. Homemade decorations can focus on memories and express positive emotions about growing another year older. - Create thoughtful decorations that reminisce on years past using old photographs. Good photos to use include high school yearbook photos and pictures taken at other milestones, such as birthdays or weddings. Make copies of the photos and place them on a sheet of cardboard. Laminate the sheets to use as place mats. Each guest will have one of these specialized placemats at her seat, and the encased photos will provide a reminder of how the celebrant and guests have changed over the years.
- Create centerpieces using current events from the birthday year. While finding copies of 30-year-old newspapers may be difficult, stories and photos about events of that year can be printed from online archives. Fold a printed sheet diagonally into quarters and slightly crumple the corner end to create a handle. Secure this handle with a rubber band and attach the rubber band to a plastic straw or stick. Use scissors to trim or fringe the edges of the newspaper into the shape of a flower. Place several of these flowers in vases at each table.
- Since turning 30 is a decidedly adult event, decorations in silver and black add to the mature ambiance. Draw the number 30 on card stock and cut out the numbers. Make enough of these cut-outs to create a banner long enough to span the area where the party will be held. Paint some of the cut-outs with black gloss paint and cover the others with sheets of aluminum foil. Punch holes in the top of these cut-outs and string them together with a length of yarn or ribbon. Use tape to keep the cut-outs spaced evenly. Hang the banner over a door or in another area of the celebration.
