- 1). Turn off the the power to the air conditioner. The power switch is usually located near the outdoor unit. If not, turn the power off at the circuit breaker.
- 2). Vacuum the coils surrounding the outdoor air conditioning unit with a soft brush attachment to remove any dirt or debris.
- 3). Unscrew the grille on top of the air conditioner and carefully lift it from the unit if possible. Handle it gently to avoid damaging the electrical wires or the fan.
- 4). Spray the coils with a garden hose to remove any debris from between the fins. Avoid spraying the fan and any electrical wires.
- 5). Replace the fan and grille cover before turning the power back on.
