Combining water and air jets to ease and soothe aching muscles, whirlpool baths, often called Jacuzzi baths after the brand, are bought for health reasons as well as for the fun of bathing in moving water. Whirlpool baths come in various different sizes, both for individual bathers or for communal bathing between two or more people. - The water jets in the whirlpool bath are the features that give the bath its name. They direct a powerful stream of turbulent water throughout the bath to give the body either an invigorating or a soothing massage depending on the strength of the water jet. There are different types of jets. Diverting jets are able to be positioned to direct the flow to different areas of the bath as well as having water flow control. Shoulder jets are those positioned at shoulder height in the whirlpool bath and provide relief from shoulder and back pain through a targeted stream of water.
- Water therapy is a basic feature of whirlpool baths. Deep massage of muscles and pressure points increases blood flow to painful areas of the body, easing joints and stiffness. Popular with the Romans, water therapy soothes and promotes healing.
Colors and lighting provoke mood and can either soothe or stimulate. It a well known feature in home decor, but chromotherapy works in the same way in a whirlpool bath. Underwater lights create an ambiance that dramatically alters the mood of the bath, and with different colors to choose from the possibilities are endless. Go red for an energizing whirlpool, or for deep relaxation choose purple. - Whirlpool baths have a range of different styles to suit most home decor preferences. Some are recessed, with three open sides that are designed to be fitted into an alcove, while others are designed to be installed below floor level or raised up on a platform. Freestanding whirlpool baths make their own fashion statement, or corner baths can be roughly triangular or crescent shaped depending on individual preference and bathroom style.
