- 1). Browse the cooking section at your favorite book store or library looking for cookbooks and dining guides written about countries and cultures that you find interesting. Purchase or check out the books that appeal to you the most. You can also look on the government websites of foreign countries, which often list native foods and recipes.
- 2). Read the literature you have selected. Take notes on or highlight recipes you would like to try and cooking tips you would like to remember.
- 3). Visit ethnic restaurants, markets and local cultural festivals. Ask restaurant and store owners about their favorite recipes, cooking techniques and ingredients.
- 4). Travel to foreign countries. If you are able to travel frequently, make sure you visit countries with cuisines you know you enjoy, as well as countries with food that is new and different to you. Be adventurous with tasting different dishes, and ask locals to make recommendations on the best foods, cooking methods and ingredients. Keep a trip journal where you can make note of new recipes and ideas you pick up while traveling.
- 5). Enroll in culinary classes. Discover classes while traveling abroad, or seek out internationally themed classes offered in your home city.
- 6). Cook your own international cuisine using the tips and recipes you have picked up from reading, tasting, traveling and attending classes. Use the ideas you have picked up to customize international dishes to your own preferences.
