- 1). Allow the dishwasher to cool for at least an hour before you attempt to clean the element.
- 2). Remove any dishes left in the trays. Pull the bottom tray out of the dishwasher and set aside. The tray rides on small wheels and comes out relatively easily.
- 3). Fill a cleaning bucket with a gallon of warm water, a few drips of dish soap and a cup of vinegar. Wet a sponge in the solution.
- 4). Scrub the calrod with the sponge to remove any built-up deposits. The vinegar will also work to remove any mold. You will not electrocute yourself by touching the rod, as it does not have an electrical connection unless the dishwasher is running.
- 5). Wipe off the rod with a dry towel and place the tray back into the dishwasher.
