How to Improve Hair Growth for Older Women

    • 1). Regularly massage the scalp to stimulate the hair follicles. Using the balls of your fingers, rub your scalp in circular patterns to boost blood flow to the scalp and stimulate healthy hair growth. Do this for at least 10 minutes daily.

    • 2). Eat foods with protein and iron. Protein, which is found in fish, eggs, poultry and yogurt, and iron, which is found in whole grain cereals, eggs, dates and raisins, are essential for hair health. In addition, essential fatty acids, such as those found in walnuts, canola oil, fish and soy, are known to promote hair growth. If you do not consume your daily amount of vitamins B and E, take a supplement.

    • 3). Avoid harsh hair treatments, such as perms or coloring. These processes damage hair follicles and impede growth. Heat styling devices, such as straightening or curling irons, should also be avoided. Do not pull your hair back into a ponytail or bun, as this can also cause hair loss.

    • 4). Use herbal remedies to treat the hair. Rosemary has been known to improve quality and volume of hair. Mix rosemary leaves with your shampoo and wash as normal. Another natural remedy is a mixture of coconut and olive oils, which is massaged into the scalp for 10 minutes. Aloe vera and coconut milk can also be applied directly to the scalp to strengthen hair at the roots and repair damage.
