Krishnaraja Sagar Dam is traditionally known as KRS Dam. It is situated across the Kaveri River in Mandya region close to Mysore in the Karnataka State. There is also a garden connected to the dam known as Brindavan Gardens, which is basically considered as a tourist place.

History Of Krishnaraja Sagar Dam
It is the first irrigational dam that was named after the Mysore's Maharaja Sir Krishna Raja Wodeyar, who provided money for this novel project. It was designed and built by the engineer Sir M.
Vishweswaraiah in the year 1924, who served as a chief engineer during the construction of a beautiful dam with musical fountain and ponds. The material used to build this dam was Surkhi €" The mixture of brick powder and limestone instead of using cement. This makes the dam look most attractive and is so strong that it will remain the same for years to come.
It is approximately 8600 feet long and 130 feet tall. It is spread around an area of 130 square Kilometers.
The water of the dam is basically used for agricultural operations by the farmers of Mysore and Mandya District, which is beneficial for the production of rice, sugarcane and other crops spread and grown over thousands of acres of land. Further, the water released from this dam is mainly used, as a vital source of drinking water in different states of Tamil Nadu.
Best Time To Visit The Dam
The best time to visit the place is during sunset when the enlightened dancing musical fountain comes together with the heavenly experience of cool breeze surrounding the greenery. The arrangements are done with the latest technology by using advanced lighting techniques and music due to which the fountain water jumps and dance accordingly.
The botanical garden is opened from 6:30 PM to 7:25 PM from Monday to Friday and from 6:30 PM to 8:25 PM on Saturdays and Sundays.
