A person that is obese has many things that will affect his every waking moment.
What you may not realize is that being obese will affect the way you sleep.
Sleep Apnea may not be cause by being overweight but it will certainly affect the way and the type of sleep you get.
A Swedish research team took a group of obese men and put them on a low-calorie liquid diet.
The diet lasted seven weeks and they found that people that lost the weight the sleep apnea was almost cured.
The control group that did not lose the weight saw almost no cure for their condition.
The research group rated how serious the sleep apnea was by the number of incidents per hour.
The group with the obese people were was having on average 37 sleep episodes per hour.
The average for a normal person sleeping is 5-14 episodes per hour.
The difference is startling.
The group that went on the diet lost and average 41 pounds while the control group gained 2.
4 pounds on average.
The group that dieted lost an average of 41 pounds in the nine weeks that they participated.
This is something else that most obese people never bother to look at.
Almost everyone that is obese has the symptoms of sleep apnea.
Her is another biological problem that can be cleared up by losing weight and keeping it off.
The biggest drawback to this study was that it only covered a short time frame which was nine weeks.
So it would be hard to tell the results over a longer period of time.
Even in the short-term this is an excellent reason to lose the excess weight and help you get a better nights sleep.
This is just another ailment that by losing weight and exercising you can almost cure.
