In the wake of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, there have been increases in airport security. Passengers are now limited in the amount of liquid that they can carry onto a plane. Perfume is included in this "3-1-1" rule which is enforced by the Transportation Security Administration and implemented by US Airways on its flights. If in doubt about the size of the bottle, passengers should put liquid containers into their checked luggage. - As of 2010, the quantity of perfume that may be carried in hand luggage is limited to containers that are 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or smaller.
- Perfume that is being carried in hand luggage should be packed in one-quart zip-lock plastic bags. The contents must fit comfortably in the bag. Empty containers and partially used larger containers are not permitted.
- There is a limit of one plastic bag per passenger, permitted to be carried within hand luggage.
- Duty-free perfume purchases will be sealed in a duty-free plastic bag to denote that it was purchased after the security checks.
