- 1). Follow the power cable from the back of the appliance to the outlet. Ensure the plug is still firmly connected and not hanging loose. Disconnect any extension cord or multi-plug adapters between the power cable and the outlet.
- 2). Check your fuses or breakers for faults. A blown fuse or tripped breaker can prevent the washing machine from working. Always use time-delay fuses with your Kenmore Series 70 washer.
- 3). Straighten out the water-supply hoses at the back of the washer. Water won't enter or exit the appliance unless it can flow properly along the pipes. Kinks and twists stop the washer filling and draining properly.
- 4). Open the water shut-off valves where the water supply pipes meet the wall. The valves are usually closed when the washing machine is serviced or moved to a new location. The shut-off valves are sometimes built in to the supply pipe behind the appliance.
- 5). Confirm the washing machine's cycle selector dial is in the right position. Push the dial inward and turn it to either "Heavy Duty," "Normal," "Delicate" or "Permanent Press," then pull the dial outward. The washing machine won't start until the dial is pulled out.
- 6). Open and firmly close the lid, as it might not have engaged the first time. The washing machine might fill with water but stop before the spin cycle if the lid is left open. This is a safety feature that prevents accidental water spillage.
- 7). Take some items out of the drum; the load may be too heavy for the washing machine. The drum has a set weight limit that cannot be exceeded or the appliance will not start. Break the load in half and try again. Wash heavy items separately.
