About the City of Tangier

Tangier used to be quite the center of adventure for those looking for a little action.
Known as the €gateway to Africa€ its port plays host to lots of cruise ships on their way from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean.
It is also a ferry stop between Morocco and Spain.
Tangier has been influenced by both Europe and Africa and its architecture and culture reflect this in dozens of different ways.
While this is not the same city that was made popular in the American pop culture of during the 1940's and the 1950's, it is still very eclectic and quite enjoyable.

Some very well known individuals used to frequent Tangier.
People like Tennessee Williams and Truman Capote could be found there regularly.
While it is not nearly as popular of a location as it used to be, it is still quite fascinating.
However, it is not advisable to do much wandering after sundown as the city can get quite rough and can even turn dangerous.
What to Do in Tangier

Perhaps one of the best known attractions in Tangier is The Kasbah.
Located high up on the top of the hill, is the heart of the Tangier Medina, the Kasbah may lie within the Medina but it is an entity unto itself and is very easy to get lost in if you don't know where you are going.
It pays to hire a guide to take you through this particular part of Tangier.
And then of course, if you are bored, you can always pay a visit to the beaches that lie outside of the city.
The nearest beaches are not the best, but if you travel up or down the coast a bit you'll find some truly spectacular beaches.
These beaches are great because you will be able to kick back and relax and enjoy the beautiful weather.
As you can see, even though Tangier may not have the reputation that it used to have, it is still a hot and happening place.
If you are going to travel to Morocco you are definitely going to want to include this city on your must see list.
