Marvin Gaye's family sued Robin Thicke, claiming "Blurred Lines" infringed on the copyright of Gaye's 1977 song "Got To Give It Up." The trial began February 24, 2015 in Los Angeles, California. It was revealed that "Blurred Lines" earned over $16 million in profits, with Thicke receiving over $5.6 million, Pharrell Williams receiving over $5.1 million, and T.I. being paid over $700,000 for the song.
On March 10, 2015, Thicke's 38th birthday, a California federal jury ruled against him after eight days of testimony. Thicke and Williams were ordered to pay Gaye's family $7.3 million.
