A young musician's future hangs in the balance as he must choose between his love of music or supporting his family. Tony Award-winning Lincoln Center Theater dusts off Clifford Odets' stirring drama, Golden Boy, for the 2012 holiday season on Broadway.

Golden Boy tells the story of a young violin virtuoso, Joe Bonaparte, who must decide between following his passion of music or going for prize money in the boxing ring.


Set in the 1930's, the theme of choosing between one's purpose or a paycheck resonates as much today as it did when it originally premiered before Depression-era audiences.

This 75th Anniversary production is a special event for Odets' play, considering the special skills required of the lead performer playing "Joe." Lincoln Center Theater is presenting this production at the Belasco Theatre, located at 111 West 44th Street, where the play originally premiered in 1937.

Previews began November 9, 2012, with the official Opening Night set for Thursday, December 6, 2012.

This unique play stars musician and thespian Seth Numrich, most recently seen in War Horse, as "Joe Bonaparte." Playing "Mr. Bonaparte" is three-time Emmy Award winner Tony Shalhoub, best known to television audiences for his quirky roles on "Wings" and "Monk." Sharing the stage with Numrich and Shaloub are Broadway favorite and three-time Tony Award nominee Danny Burstein as "Tokio," Yvonne Strahovski as "Lorna Moon," Dagmara Dominczyk as "Anna," Michael Aronov as "Siggie," Jonathan Hadary as "Mr.

Carp," Danny Mastrogiorgio as "Tom Moody," Anthony Crivello as "Eddie Fusseli," Ned Eisenberg as "Roxy Gottlieb," Daniel Jenkins as "Barker." Rounding out the large cast of nineteen performers are Demosthenes Chrysan, Sean Cullen, Brad Fleischer, Karl Glusman, Dion Mucciacito, Vayu O'Donnell, lucas Caleb Rooney, and David Wohl.

Golden Boy is directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher. No stranger to the worlds of theatre, musicals, or opera, Sher was nominated for the Best Director of a Play Tony for Lincoln Center Theater's Awake and Sing! in 2006 and for Joe Turner's Come and Gone in 2009. He was nominated for the Best Director of a Musical Tony Award for the 2005 original Broadway production of The Light in the Piazza and won the 2008 Tony for directing the first Broadway revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific.

The creative team includes a bevy of Tony Award winners assembled by Lincoln Center Theater especially for this production. Set Design is by Michael Yeargan, who the Best Scenic Design Tony Award for his work on The Light in the Piazza and Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific revival. Costume Design is by five-time Tony Award-winning Costumer Catherine Zuber, who won for The Light in the Piazza, Awake and Sing!, The Coast of Utopia, Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific, and The Royal Family.

Lighting Design is by Donald Holder, who won the Tony Award for Best Lighting for both The Lion King and Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific. He also lit the 2012 original Broadway production of Leap of Faith! starring Raul Esparza and the current revival of Annie the Musical. Sound Design is by Peter John Still and Marc Salzberg.

Lincoln Center Theater won a Tony Award for its Broadway revival of Awake and Sing!, which was also directed by Bartlett Sher, in 2006. Currently, Lincoln Center Theater is represented on Broadway with its 2012 Tony Award-winning new play, War Horse.
