WaterCan, a leading charity from Canada, is establishing important Clean Water Projects [http://www.watercan.com/] in many east African countries. Providing easy access to clean water and educating individuals in developing countries on hygiene and sanitation practices is important and can greatly improve the future of communities, children, women and men. With the help of WaterCan, people living in poverty are able to improve their lifestyle and live healthier lives, free of water and sanitation-related diseases.
WaterCan's principal vision is to eliminate global poverty and, after having delivered programs in 32 countries around the world, WaterCan is now concentrating its efforts on four developing communities: Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, which constitutes the eastern region of Africa. These countries have shown a dire need of support water and sanitation programming are considered to be amongst the poorest countries in the world.. Starting by creating Clean Water Projects in those countries is the first step to take to help those countries and assure the population a brighter future. It is no secret that many of those populations are plagued with diseases related to the consummation of unsafe drinking water. The Clean Water Projects lead by WaterCan are having a meaningful impact on those communities, allowing people to live happier and healthier lives.
WaterCan takes a participatory approach allowing the communities to feel empowered and take matters into their own hands. Having the community participating in the Clean Water Projects is the only way of ensuring that the support offered by WaterCan will be sustained in the long-term. Having the locals participate in the projects fosters a sense of empowerment and ownership in the community, which strengthen the chances of a healthy future for that community. This participatory approach, combined with an integrative approach to programming is what explains a large part of WaterCan's success. The integrative approach is including the implementation of three inter-related components; clean water supply [wells, rainwater tanks and protected springs], basic sanitation facilities [ventilated improved pit latrines] and hygiene promotion and education.
Poverty is a reality of our world and is often ignored. Eastern Africa still counts as being one of the poorest regions of the planet and WaterCan is proud to be doing everything to help these developing countries secure a better future for their children. The Clean Water Projects implemented in those communities will help children, women and men to live healthier, to take their future into their own hands and take action on their living conditions. WaterCan has been established as being a leading charity and has done a lot to try and eradicate poverty in many regions of the world and, thanks to the support of the donors and volunteers, has succeeded in improving many communities' conditions.
