- 1). Buy a range booster or external antenna for your phone. These come in a variety of configurations and price ranges. The main function is to improve your wireless signal regardless of weather conditions by substituting your phone's internal antenna for a more powerful external version. Tethered versions plug into the phone, while untethered versions function as a sort of mini-tower to relay the signal to your phone.
- 2). Charge your battery to full power. Phones require a good charge to adequately power the internal antenna. Low batteries can significantly reduce the antenna's signal acquisition capabilities. Plug your phone in to see if your signal improves with the power increase.
- 3). Turn off other features such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth on your device. These features drain battery power, and the connection to other signal broadcasting devices may interfere with your wireless signal.
- 4). Turn off other devices that emit radio waves or other electronic waves that may reduce or block wireless signals. These include, but are not limited to, microwaves, radios, other phones and computers.
- 5). Reduce the number of solid structures between you and the signal. Concrete, brick, stone, metal and similar materials greatly reduce the amount of signal your phone can receive. Stand near a window or on a balcony to boost the wireless signal. Underground structures or interior spaces, such as elevators, also greatly reduce the strength of a wireless signal.
