Often times, we consider that we are scatterbrained. That is we forget this, or forget that and will say things like, "Where did I put my keys, I know they're around here somewhere"? To become mindful of things, that is to remember things, is one of those arts that needs to take place before stressful events happen. It is one of those areas that if you wait to the stressful events in life, you will have waited to long. It's one of those areas that require you to prepare ahead of time, because during the event, well, then it's to late. So what exactly is meant by being mindful and what does it mean to you? Everyone, no matter how mindful they are can improve in this area.
To be mindful is simply the ability to pay attention. How many times are you talking with someone and they are busy on their cell phone or texting? It's a common thing any more. Not only does it say to you that they don't care about you, but they don't care about what you are saying, thinking or feeling. When one learns the art of being mindful, they reach levels that have only be dreamed of before. When one learns to be mindful, they develop deep insights and awareness, as well as entering into a deep state of relaxation. As one progresses, they enter into a deeper level of contentment, partly because the ability to 'slow down' has occurred, do to learning how to have more inner space, an open-mind and an open-heart.
It would be nice to say that to become mindful is simple. But like with most things in life, everyone is different, and for some it will be easier than for others. In part, learning to become mindful means to become aware of what your body is doing. With paying close attention to how you are breathing, what you are thinking, what is going on you're your body and both mentally and emotionally. The heart of being mindful is about truly living. Being truly aware of what is going on in ones life, and living to the maximum potential because of this awareness. Being mindful means having wisdom and clarity in every moment of one's live. If you are not living a mindful life, then you must ask the question: Are you really living?
