Learning the guitar can sometimes become a forgotten past time many of us thought about while growing up but may have become preoccupied with other events going on in our lives that we never really pursue.
Chasing girls along with competing in sports and participating in other activities can easily require a majority of your time, leaving you looking back and wondering where the time went.
After wanting to learn the guitar for so long, I was finally able to put it all together and learn.
Some ways may work well for others, so these are just some situations that I have come across that has helped me learn the guitar.
Private lessons Pretty much known as the traditional way of learning the guitar, it almost seems archaic in its delivery today.
First of all, it can simply be inconvenient, requiring you to schedule an appointment and structure your commitments around your lesson, not to mention working around the teachers schedule.
Second, it can be very expensive.
With costs reaching as high as, and sometimes even more than $50 an hour, simply taking one lesson a week can start to add up to quite a substantial bill.
Learn on your own I started teaching myself how to play guitar when I was 23.
At 35, I still only knew basic chords but had no comprehension of how to put them all together.
It wasn't until I started playing with someone else that I was able to advance my skills and understanding and to begin to be able to play what it was I wanted to play.
Play with someone I was pretty lucky when I met somebody who needed another musician in order to get a band together.
But there was a compromise to this.
I would be playing the bass instead of guitar, but that was fine with me.
It was still going to give me an opportunity to learn an instrument that was easily transferable to the guitar.
There are definitely advantages to playing both.
The prospect of playing gigs was enough motivation for him to teach me what I needed to know and for me to learn how to play bass with the band.
Having others depend on me was additional motivation for me to practice.
They could tell if I wasn't practicing and tell how much I did practice to prepare for rehearsal.
If I didn't learn and practice, I wasn't only letting myself down, I was letting those around me down.
Learning online Taking an on line course to learn how to play the guitar has become one of the most convenient ways available to learn the instrument.
The ability of being able to take your lesson anytime, anywhere can help you keep an acute interest.
If you aren't comfortable with the progression of your lesson, you have the option to repeat it.
On the other hand, you don't need to wait to move on to the next lesson if you feel comfortable to do so, helping keep the progression of the experience alive.
Costs can be quite reasonable given the advantages mentioned above and an added bonus: no one sees your mistakes! Regardless of how you learn, the most important thing to remember is to just do it! Days become months, which turn into years and before you know it, 15 years has passed and you still only thinking about learning the guitar.
