- 1). Create a paste that contains an equal amount of white distilled vinegar and baking soda. Allow the paste to sit on the hard water stain for up to 10 minutes. Rinse the area with water.
- 2). Create a paste made from an equal amount of cream of tartar and hydrogen peroxide if the stain remains. Apply the paste to the hard water stain and allow it to sit on the stain for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse the area with clean water.
- 3). Apply lemon juice to hard water stains on bathroom fixtures. Allow the lemon juice to sit for 5 minutes and then wipe the lemon juice off with a damp washcloth.
- 4). Soften hard water stains that are difficult to remove by soaking paper towels in white vinegar. Place the paper towels onto the stains and allow them to sit for 1 hour. Wipe the surface with a damp washcloth to remove the deposits.
- 5). Combine 1 tablespoon of ammonia with 1 gallon of hot water. Soap scum may have formed on the surface along with the mineral deposits. Scrub on the area with a sponge soaked in the ammonia solution and then rinse the area with clean water.
