Most people are at least somewhat familiar with the this prepackaged diet now endorsed by Jodie Sweeten (Stephanie Tanner on Full House.
) After all, the company spends a lot of money paying celebrities like Jillian Barberie, Tori Spelling, Marie Osmond, and Danielle Fishel to make the general pubic familiar with this weight loss system.
Thanks to Jillian Barberie, most of us know that we can eat pizza, burgers, and chocolate on the plan, but what we don't know is how the food actually tastes.
I've tasted most all of it.
In this article, I'll share what I think are the best testing of the foods and which I generally steer clear of.
Overall Impression Of Nutrisystem Food Taste: First off, I need to say that overall I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the offerings.
It's hard to know what to expect from prepackaged food that requires very little preparation, but most of it is surprisingly decent and some of it is quite good.
The Foods That Taste Quite Good: Now, onto the foods which I think are the very best the plan has to offer: The Nutrisystem Breakfast Foods: (Carbs Included): I admit my biggest concern about any diet is what I get to eat for breakfast.
Not every one realizes that in reality this is a low carb diet.
The foods are designed to be low in calories and carbohydrates and high in protein.
Although this is good news because ketosis and the mechanism of high protein encouraging your body to burn its own fat is generally effective for most people, eating meat, eggs, and nuts all of the time is difficult for most.
One great thing about this diet is that it includes carb and snack type foods and it's loaded with decent breakfast options.
One good example is the cereals, like: NutriFrosted (kind of like Frosted Flakes); NutriFlakes (a bit like Raisin Bran); and NutriCinnamon Squares (reminds me of Cinnamon Life).
There are also pancakes, a phenomenal blueberry muffin (my favorite), and oatmeal.
And yes, there are also lots of protein filled eggs, but they are pretty decent and you can dress them up with fat free cheese or veggies to make an omelet.
The Desserts And Snacks: Nutrisystem offers over 30 desserts and snacks to chose from.
Dessert options include white chocolate cookies, chocolate cake, almond biscotti, and strawberry shortcakes.
Snacks include sour cream and onion chips, nachos, and pretzels, to name only a few.
No, these don't taste exactly like their full fat counterparts, but they are mostly surprisingly decent and get the job done when you are craving something sweet, salty or crunchy.
The Nutrisystem Dinners: The dinner menu is where the company puts all of the comfort type foods that Jillian Barberie plugged, like pizza, macaroni and cheese, lasagna, fajitas, tacos, and chili.
Again, these don't taste exactly like fast or junk food, but they are better than I ever expected them to be.
The dinner items I don't care for are the beef steak options, the pot roast , and the beef stew, but frankly I don't like these options in every day life either.
The Foods Which I Don't Care For: This is why I chose the "I want to select my own menu" option when ordering.
There is one subset of the foods which I think is sort of lacking, which is: The Nutrisystem Lunch Foods: While I enjoy some of the lunch offerings, (fettuccini alfredo and cheese tortellini) the company mostly offers soups and stews for your lunch.
Examples are bean and ham soup, black been soup, and chicken and barley stew.
As you might deduct, I'm not a fan of soup so this does limit my choices.
To be fair, there are other options like chicken a la king, and pasta with beef.
There are also very nice lunch desserts like chocolate raspberry and fudge graham bars.
I usually get around this by just eating / ordering the breakfast and dinner foods that I enjoy for lunch.
Maybe this is cheating, but it hasn't skewed my results any and it makes sticking with the plan much easier.
The good news is that Nutrisystem allows you to chose your own foods in your package so that aren't stuck with foods you may not like.
