Bill Walsh, the Hall of Fame coach, has disclosed that he is suffering from Leukemia.
Stanford officials have confirmed this.
Walsh who was Stanford's interim athletic director until Bob Bowlsby was hired in April this year till had informed friends and colleagues that he had cancer.
74 year old Walsh informed The Press Democrat and The Sports Xchange websites that he was doing everything that his physicians had recommended and is working his way through the cancer.
Walsh was diagnosed with leukemia in 2004.
Recently he has had a series of blood transfusions and feels much better after that.
Steve, Walsh's eldest child died of leukemia in May 2002 at the age of 46.
Steve was an ABC News reporter who had the privilege of covering major stories like the fall of Berlin Wall and the Columbine High School massacre.
Walsh decided to go public with his illness as the word had started getting around.
Jim Plunkett, former Heisman Trophy winner and star NFL quarter back confirmed that he knew about Walsh's illness for sometime now.
Plunkett was recruited to Stanford by Walsh.
Plunkett informed that he was extremely sad about Walsh since he shared a long and special relationship with him and everyone who knew him is praying for his speedy recovery.
Walsh was 47 years old when he became an NFL head coach.
He won three Super Bowls and was instrumental into turning the 49ers into the most successful teams in 1980s.
He took the NFL by storm with his offensive strategies and teaching techniques.
He was named the NFL Coach of the Year in 1981 and 1984
