- A GPS, short for Global Positioning System, is an electronic navigation aid that shows and tells you how to get to a location. There are numerous GPS receivers available, each with its own perks and features. Some include memory card slots, which can be used to add a microSD card. MicroSD cards can be used to update navigation maps or other features of the GPS.
- The Garmin Nüvi 255W is an entry-level GPS with plenty of extra features. The 4.3-inch widescreen allows more of the navigation map to be shown at once, and displays text and images more clearly than its smaller counterparts. The memory slot supports both SD and microSD cards. With the addition of a microSD card, the 255W allows you to view JPEG photo files, add custom points of interest (POIs) and view travel guides.
- The TomTom GO 740TM is an easy-to-use GPS that includes a microSD card slot for expanding its memory. Although the 740TM does not support music and photos, the additional memory of the microSD card can be used to store map updates and add additional voices. Other notable features include live traffic updates, voice recognition and Bluetooth support.
- The Motorola Motonav TN765T is a high-end GPS. It uses an intuitive interface that combines the on-screen navigation map with the menu used to navigate the device. Included is a microSD slot. Photos and music are not supported, though map and hardware updates are. At 5.1 inches, the Motorola Motonav TN765T is considerably larger than the above devices. Its most-touted features are the 3D landmarks and multiple map angles.
