Harmony 1000 Tips

    Add the Wireless Extender

    • Many of today's devices are designed to be low profile or portable, but most of them are still specialized, and the sheer number of different disc players, game systems and receivers can add up to a space consuming and unsightly stack. The Harmony 1000 can solve this problem by connecting to all of your devices without needing them to be in line of sight. This requires you to sync your Harmony 1000 remote to a Harmony Wireless RF extender. This add-on device allows you to store most of your media equipment---computer, Xbox, cable, DVD player etc---in a closet or toward the rear of the room without losing the functionality of these devices. Simply sync your Harmony 1000 and manage them from your remote. The Harmony Wireless extender ranges in price from 70 to 100 dollars.

    Lost Remotes

    • Adding devices to the Harmony 1000 remote is as simple as pointing their remote controls toward the machine, but occasionally finding the original remote is not so easy. If one of your devices has a remote that that has been lost, stolen or broken or if you are upgrading from a previous universal remote, you can still sync your Harmony 1000 with your device by accessing the Extensive Harmony Remote Database. This online catalog of remote control codes has more than 250,000 devices logged from 7,000 different manufacturers. Use this tool by selecting the device, manufacturer and model numbe, which is usually located on the information panel of your unit, and clicking "add" while your remote control is plugged into your computer's USB drive.

    Adding the Blue Ray Player

    • While the Harmony 1000 remote control is a highly advanced remote control, adding a Blue Ray player can be a mystery. This is because while the Extensive Harmony Remote Database is well stocked with model numbers, many of the model numbers for Blue Ray players have been misplaced under the DVD player device heading. To select your Blue Ray player, simply select "DVD" from the device drop-down menu, then your device's manufacturer and model number and click "add device" while your remote is plugged into the computer.
