To have a pleasant first run-in with the Logitech Harmony series you need to be aware of some things.
And have a few things planned out in advance.
As long as you follow these simple guidelines and remember a few things you should be fine.
First of all its just a remote control not a magic wand, it mostly operates like all your other remotes.
So plan out carefully what you want it to do before setting it up and starting to program it.
I suggest writing a note and noting all the functions you would like it to do for you.
And one list of all your equipment including model numbers.

Once you have this list, sit down by your computer and follow the quick start guide on your remote.
Never mind if you like the setup it provides do it anyway.
It will give you an idea of how this genius thing works.
And the software can be a bit confusing at first if you do not have a good grasp of some key concepts.
If you have three remotes to go through normally before you are ready to watch a DVD and just for simplicity each one requires 4 key presses.
That is 12 different IR signals your Logitech Harmony has to send out to perform that function, and it does not happen in an instant.
Now days stuff like a DVD player uses a moment to power up before it accepts any more commands.
So when testing your Logitech Harmony have patience it takes a while to get through all the 12 keys it needs to emulate.
Once you have one function up and working use that as a guide to set up the rest, like watch TV, Record TV, listen to Music and so on.
The final tip, once you have it up and running HIDE all your other remotes, your Logitech Harmony does not sense if you TV is on or off.
So if you turn off your TV or other equipment with its normal remote then because the on/off signal is the same in most equipment.
Then turning one thing off with its own remote will make your Logitech Harmony turn it on again when you try to turn you other stuff off using the power off function.
