Weight loss is not a matter of trying to achieve quick results. Doing so can be dangerous and ineffective. Instead, you should try to obtain steady weight loss by following these simple guidelines. Also remember to eat when you're hungry, eat slowly and stop when you're full. If you want something to eat when you're not hungry, chew gum, crunch on crushed ice or take a walk. - Fibrous foods expand in your belly, keeping you full for long periods of time. They're also typically low-calorie and nutritious. Fruits and vegetables are the best sources of naturally-occurring fiber. Eat as many vegetables as you'd like but be aware of fruit's high sugar content. Drinking a glass of water with any fibrous food will keep you full for longer than merely eating the food. Fiber is water soluble and soaks up liquid. As such, it takes up more space in your belly and helps you feel satisfied and full for a a significantly longer period of time.
- While you don't have to go on a starvation diet, calorie reduction is necessary for weight loss. Simple swaps such as low-fat turkey (45 calories a serving) instead of regular turkey (120 calories a serving) can go a long way. You can eat the same amount of food but receive far less calories. Females should never drop below 1,200 calories a day and males should never drop below 1,500 calories a day.
- Increasing activity not only burns more calories, it also revs up your metabolism so that you burn more calories all the time! For 30 minutes after aerobic exercise and for 8 hours after weight lifting your body continues to burn calories at an expedited rate. You don't have to exercise all at once. If you can only exercise for 10 minutes a day several times a day, that's better than nothing.
- Water is crucial while losing weight. Without proper fluid levels in the body, the toxins that were stored in your body fat will accumulate in your blood stream. Chilled water also raises your metabolism and keeps you feeling full. Many people mistake thirst for hunger so be certain to always have water on hand.
- Many people in today's day and age are emotional eaters. They eat when they're unhappy, angry, stressed or bored. Reduce the stress in your life by doing one thing a day that you enjoy, just for you. Read a book. Watch a sunset. Paint or draw. Plant a flower. Meditate. Whatever gives you a happy, calm feeling, try to indulge yourself for a few minutes every day. Not only will this help prevent emotional eating, it will give you the ability to reflect and gain better impulse control.
