How to Write a Science Fair Journal

    Composing Your Science Fair Journal

    • 1). Begin a journal with a cover sheet that lists your project's name and the name(s) of the student(s) who contribute to the project. Leave room for an abstract (a summary of the conclusion) and table of contents.

    • 2). Dedicate the first few pages of data with your question and background research. Explain why you decided to answer the question being asked.

    • 3). Construct and support a hypothesis using background research. Briefly explain in your journal why you think the experiment will turn out based on your original research.

    • 4). While creating and using experiments to test your hypothesis, record your data on scratch paper using appropriate graphs, pictures, drawings and so forth.

    • 5). Create a conclusion that clearly communicates the results of your experiments. Your conclusion should explain if your hypothesis was true or false. Take your conclusion and summarize your findings for the abstract page of your journal.

    • 6). If your hypothesis is false, construct a new hypothesis and repeat your experiments and include the appropriate data after your first set of experiments. Repeat this process until you arrive at a hypothesis that is true.

    • 7). Organize all of your collected data chronologically and place them in the journal. Label each page by number and construct a table of contents.

    • 8). Include a bibliography of any researched data at the end of your journal. Order the sources as the information you gathered from them appears in the journal.
