Programs

• Health administration programs are available on both bachelor's and master's degree levels, according to the Association of University Programs in Health Administration. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, a master's degree is usually recommended if you would like to work in health administration. About 100 Master of Health Administration programs are available, including those at Arizona State University, Boston University, San Diego State University, Xavier University and Yale University. Other options include Master of Business Administration programs with a concentration in health administration.
  
  

Accreditation

• The Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) is the accrediting body of health administration programs in the United States and Canada. As officially recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the Department of Education, the CAHME is integral in helping students and faculty determine the merits of any health administration program in which they are interested. The CAHME has accredited 72 schools as of March 2010.
  
  

Degrees

• The Master of Health Administration (MHA) program covers hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and government's involvement in health care. It also examines the impact of technology on the medical field, as well as the laws and ethical issues surrounding the industry. Some MHA programs are offered as a joint degree with a Master of Business Administration.
  
  

University of Pittsburgh

• The University of Pittsburgh has one of the 72 CAHME Master of Health Administration programs. According to the University of Pittsburgh, its program anchors students "in the core disciplines of public health and provided structured opportunities for real-world management experience through the management residency/practicum." An additional program called "On the Road to Professional Practice" helps students transition from the school setting to work.
  
  

MBA

• Because health administration often deals with the business side of the health-care field, some people interested in health administration choose to pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA). This degree allows students to look at health care from different perspectives and can help students understand the business side more fully. MBA students looking to work in health administration often have the option to specialize in health care.
