How to Copy an Angle by Construction

    • 1). Using a straightedge, draw an angle of any size on a piece of paper.

    • 2). Place the compass point on the vertex of the angle. Make two small arcs, intersecting the two rays of the angle. Label these points "A" and "B."

    • 3). Draw a line segments just longer than the current width of the compass. Mark one of the endpoints "E."

    • 4). Place the compass point on point E and make an arc that intersects the line segment. The endpoint E will be the vertex of the new angle, so make the arc large enough so that it will intersect the other ray of the angle that you will be drawing. Label the point where the arc and line segment intersect "C."

    • 5). Adjust the width of the compass to reach from A to B. Place the point of the compass on C and make a small arc to intersect the large arc that you made in Step 4. Label this intersection point "D."

    • 6). Draw a line from endpoint E through point D. This line should form an angle with the line segment equal to the first angle you drew.
