How to Make an Easy Firefly Costume for a Child

    • 1). Shape the wire hangers into matching ovals with the hook on one of the narrow ends.

    • 2). Stick one of the ovals into each leg of the pantyhose or stockings, starting with the narrow end opposite the hook. Pull the hose tightly toward the hook so that is stretches smoothly over the oval. Wrap a twist tie around the fabric just above the hook to hold the pantyhose in place.

    • 3). Overlap the hooks of the hangers and tape them tightly together with clear packing tape.
Wrap the excess fabric of the hose over the tape to cover the hooks and tape it in place.

    • 4). Cut a 1-yard length of 1/2-inch green ribbon and tie the center of it over the twist tie on one side. Cut another length and tie it in the same way on the other side.

    • 5). Have the child put on a green leotard and tights or a green hooded sweatshirt and sweat pants. Fold a green chenille stem in half. Staple it to the top of the hood, or bobby pin it in the child's hair for the antenna. Place the wings against the child's back and tie the ribbons around his arms to hold them in place. Stick a battery-operated, stick-on light onto the costume. Place it on his backside for a tail, or on his tummy if he wants it in front.
