- Select a pair of old jeans that still fit in the waist and hip areas. An out-of-date leg cut or a pair that has seen its prime will work well as a skirt. Cut the legs straight across at the knee or below. If a shorter skirt is desired, the length is shortened later. Turn the jeans inside out and use a stitch ripper to remove the inseam of each leg. Work all the way to the crotch of the jeans, moving upward to the bottom of the zipper. In the back, remove the stitching up the middle seam all the way to the belt loops. The jeans should lie flat with each leg disassembled.
- Pin the fabric together, beginning at the belt loops on the backside, and work down. Pull the fabric until it is even and there is no bunching. Continue pinning the back to the bottom of the skirt. Turn the fabric around and work from the zipper down, pinning the seam together. Remove any bunching of material, pulling tightly while pinning.
- Using a sewing machine, stitch the seams together in the rear. This can be done by hand using denim thread and a larger grade needle. Sew the seam together in the back from the belt loops down. Begin the front seam at the zipper. Sew to the bottom of the skirt.
Once the two seams have been sewn, use a pair of craft shears to trim the edge of the skirt, making the bottom even and cutting to the desired length. Once a desired length is achieved, re-stitch the bottom of each seam up two inches to reinforce the front and back seams. Once washed, the hem has a frayed edge. Pair with a set of sexy heels or laid-back flips flops and a favorite shirt.
