The R1 Black driver is a club that is virtually identical to the R1 White drivers that the players have been using in 2013. It is a sinister version of taylormade's much-lauded white R1 driver. We have seen the successful of the white R1 Driver. Will the black one be hot among our golfers? I think the answer is surely yes. Not only because its technology but alos its performance.
When you first see the TaylorMade R1 driver you are probably going to do a double take. The only difference is that the R1 Black has a glossy black-painted crown, while the R1 White has a matte white-painted crown. In either color, the R1 is a vaunted weapon on the fairway, almost entirely customizable to give players flexibility in shot weight locations, face angle, and the piece and resistance, loft angle. That's huge, when you consider that TaylorMade says 80 percent of golfers are using the wrong loft angle on every drive.
The cheap R1 driver does not come with a loft stamped on it like most drivers do. The black model also gain this feature. You can adjust the loft from 8 up to 12 degree to suit for your game. The movable weights in the R1 driver allow players to alter their shot shape. By moving the weights, you can alter the clubhead's CG (centre of gravity) by up to 5mm, to promote a draw or neutral trajectory.
The story of white wasn't in the paint itself, it was about the contrast between black and white, the illusion of a larger head leading to more confidence, and that confidence translating to faster ballspeeds. The R1 Black Driver is 460-cc and is identical to the white version. White is better. It's that simple. Ditch your Titleist, and your Callaway, and your PING, and your everything else. White is where it's at.
The official cheap TaylorMade Black R1 drivers will be available in limited quantities from select retailers from June 10th in the US and July 1st in the UK. The reality is that 2013 is an absolute banner year for metalwoods. It's almost certainly the best I've ever seen. Callaway gained ground with cheap X hot, Cobra made a statement with AMP Cell, PING and Titleist are steady as ever...
Will you switch your white driver to a black one? The TaylorMade Black R1 driver is paired with an Aldila RIP Phenom 55-gram shaft designed to promote faster clubhead speed and better feel that typical ultra-lighweight shafts.
