The first step to sending an IM with Adium is to select an IM contact on your Adium Buddy List to receive your message. Double-click on your Adium contact's screenname to continue.

Next, an IM window will appear addressed to your Adium contact. Type your message and hit "Enter" on your keyboard to send your IM. You are now ready to send and receive IMs on Adium.
