    • Burdock root is considered safe for human consumption. It is a powerful diuretic, but too much use can result in excessive urination.

    • Some people are allergic to burdock root, according to the NIH. People with allergies to ragweed, daisies and marigolds should take care with burdock. Although most allergies manifest a mild skin rash, severe reactions have been associated with burdock.

    Misconceptions

    • According to the NIH, there have been reports of burdock tea being toxic, but there has been no conclusive confirmation.

    Diabetes

    • Burdock can raise and lower blood-sugar levels, and anyone with diabetes should consult a doctor before taking it.
