- The Virtual Studio Technology (VST) format is the most common plug-in format on the market. It is used on the Windows, OS X and Linux platforms. Most digital audio workstation (DAW) environments, such as Ableton Live, Cubase and Cakewalk Sonar, are VST-compatible. Prominent exceptions include Pro Tools and Logic, which use proprietary formats. Adobe Audition and Cakewalk Sonar are also fully compatible with Auto-Tune EFX's VST-format plug-in.
- The Audio Units (AU) format is native to Apple's OS X operating system. It does not function under any other platform. The most prominent AU-compatible applications are Apple's Logic Pro, Logic Express and GarageBand. Some third-party companies also use the AU format in the OS X versions of their applications. Examples include Reaper, Ableton Live and Plogue Bidule. Most host environments originating from the OS X platform are AU-compatible.
- The Real-Time AudioSuite (RTAS) and Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) formats are native to Avid's Pro Tools DAW environment. Pro Tools remains the only RTAS-compatible platform. The TDM format requires a TDM-compatible outboard DSP card to operate. Logic and Pro Tools are the only prominent platforms to use this format. TDM compatibility is exclusive to high-end, professional platforms in general.
- For a variety of reasons, some VST-, AU- and RTAS-compatible hosts will not function with Auto-Tune EFX. Cockos' Reaper, Audiodesk and Audacity are examples. Early versions of some presently-compatible hosts will also not work with Auto-Tune EFX. These include Logic (version seven and below) and Pro Tools (version six and below). Some other hosts, such as Mixcraft and SoundForge, can work with Auto-Tune EFX but are likely to experience problems, according to Antares' software compatibility information.
- There are several host applications that, though they are VST- or AU- compatible, will not work with Auto-Tune EFX. This includes Cockos' Reaper, Soundscape, Studio Vision Pro and Audacity. It will also not work with earlier versions of many presently-compatible host applications, such as Logic (version seven and below) and Pro Tools (version six and below). Mixcraft, SoundForge and Wavelab can work with Auto-Tune EFX. However, due to various issues, these applications may encounter problems with the plug-in.
