Hiring a nanny can be a big relief for you as a parent and can relieve you of a lot of the stress and burden associated with having to care for your child alone. It is very common for new parents to hire nannies to help around the house, assist children with homework and just overall help care for the children so that you can do some of the things that you need to do. Because your nanny will be the primary caregiver for your child while you are away or running errands, it is incredibly important that you find her trustworthy, responsible and know that she will be a great role model for your child. Chances are, you will be hiring a stranger and will have to trust your instincts but until you get to know her better, for the safety of your child you must take a few added home security measures to make sure that you are happy with your choice and feel safe leaving your child alone with her.
Many parents set up home security cameras in order to watch the new nanny interact with your child and see how attentive, loving and caring she is towards your children. If you dont feel comfortable filming her without her knowledge, talk to her at the time that you hire her and alert her that your home is vigilantly monitored by a camera. Chances are, you wont have to worry about anything, but just in case, it is always better to be a hundred percent sure and confident of your choice rather than feel as if you are in the dark. Also, if your children are old enough to talk, make sure you speak to them about their feelings about the new nanny and if they would like to continue being in her care.
Because you are letting a strange person into your home, it is also important that initially, you protect your belongings and hide all of your valuables and priceless items. You can store them in a safe or simply put them in a place that is remote and hidden but you dont want to risk getting your stuff stolen or having to suspect the nanny of swiping your belongings. Until you know for a fact that you can trust her, it is important that you take added home security measures and monitor her closely to see if you feel comfortable leaving your children with her. For the first couple of days, it might e a good idea to stay home with her and monitor her interaction with your children so that you can see if they get along, if she pays attention to their needs and if you sense that she will do a good job. After the initial month or so, you should have a good feel as to whether or not you would like to continue employing her or if it is time to look for someone else.
