- 1). Wash and dry the hair thoroughly. If you prefer, do this the day before. Unlike straight hair, you do not want the hair to be wet when you start cutting. This is because the hair tends to lose a bit of the curl when wet and as it dries the curls will return to normal and the cut will no longer be even.
- 2). Wrap a towel around your shoulders and secure it in place with a large clip to help catch hair as it falls. Set yourself up in an area that is easily cleaned with hard floors such as the kitchen or bathroom.
- 3). Allow your hair to flow naturally and part where it normally would. This will ensure that the cut will look appropriate exactly as you will wear it every day. Forcing the curls elsewhere may result in an uneven or shabby cut as they eventually return to their original position.
- 4). Start with your bangs by securing the rest of your hair with a hair clip and bringing your bangs down over your forehead. Begin in the middle and work your way out and then come back and do the other side. To cut, use your fingers as a guide by running them down the hair and then cutting underneath them. Try to only do about half an inch at a time and don't pull the curls out as this will distort your cut.
- 5). Flip the bangs back and allow them to fall into place when you finish so that you can check to make sure they are even. Make adjustments so you have the angle you want and then release the rest of your hair.
- 6). Divide the hair in half and secure one side with a clip and work from back to front. Cut the hair the same way you cut your bangs and then reverse sides by taking down the rest of the hair and matching the cut up with the completed section.
- 7). Shake the hair when finished and use the mirror to make sure the cut is even. Remember that as you are cutting if you feel you are taking off too much hair, you can stop and seek professional assistance or wait for the hair to grow some before cutting further.
- 8). Sweep up the cut hair from the floor and dust off your shoulders. If you wish, wash and dry the hair again to get rid of any excess on your shoulders and enjoy your new hair cut.
