If you already know your baby's sex, an obvious choice is the traditional idea of a pink room for a girl or a blue room for a boy. Going along with this idea is fine, as there are still many ways to make it creative and contemporary. A pink room could include several shades of pink, ranging from pastel to fuschia, which many accessories will match. A blue room could have stripes or dots for boyish appeal. - A pretty nursery for a girl could be a faux sky painted with dozens of beautiful butterflies flitting about the walls. You need not be an artist--there are many realistic stencils available that anyone can use with stencil paint. Be creative and make every butterfly a different pattern--some realistic, some not. A baby will be fascinated by all of the colors.

The alphabet is a great theme for a baby nursery because the possibilities are limitless. Any color combination can be used. Pick your favorite restful, soothing hue. Stencil the alphabet using complementary colors, or use removable wall stickers. The alphabet looks great stenciled along the top of the wall, or at chair-rail level where a child can see them easily. Stenciling the letters here and there all over the room also makes fun decor. Accessories are easy to find for this versatile theme. - Primary colors make a wonderful, fun nursery. An advantage of this choice is that the baby will not grow out of it once he becomes a toddler. Accessories for either sex work well with these colors, for example, teddy bears for girls or sports for boys. Paint the walls a golden yellow. Add red and blue with the bedding for the crib, a throw rug or with the curtains.
