- The password feature in Outlook Express is connected to what Outlook calls "Identities." You will be setting up a password for your identity, which means your email account. To access the identities area, click "File," then select "Identities." Click "Manage Identities" to continue. Highlight your account, also known as your identity. Click "Properties." Place a check in the box that says "Require a Password." Type a password into the "New Password" and "Confirm New Password" fields. Click "OK." From now on, every time Outlook Express is accessed, your password will be required to access your email.
- When dealing with email security, you should be aware of "phishing," which refers to fraudulent attempts to gain access to your email or other sensitive information. A phishing email will attempt to disguise itself as something it is not, and will request that you reply with login or password information, or it will ask you to click on a link and enter sensitive information. Never send sensitive information in an email reply, and do not click any links unless you are certain of who the sender is. This will help keep your email account secure.
