- Even simple decorations can turn a regular sheet of Rice Krispies treats into fun and festive Easter snacks. After you've made a pan of Rice Krispies treats, have the children decorate the surface of the treats with pastel colored icing, in shades like robin egg blue, baby pink or soft yellow. Special Easter sprinkles, in pastel colors or holiday shapes such as bunnies or eggs add an adorable burst of color to the treats.
- Eggs aren't the only thing that can be dyed this Easter: try making colorful Rice Krispies treats for the kids to decorate. When melting the marshmallows for the treats, simply add a drop or two of food coloring. Add the crispy rice cereal to the melted marshmallows, stir the mixture to coat the cereal and let it cool for about 30 seconds. Then, have an adult shape the Rice Krispies into egg shaped ovals. When the Rice Krispies eggs are made, let the children decorate them with frosting, sprinkles and Easter candies, such as jelly beans.
- Bunny-shaped Rice Krispies treats are an adorable snack bound to put a smile upon the face of most kids. After mixing together the melted marshmallows and the crispy rice cereal and letting it cool briefly, measure out 1/3 cup portions of the mixture, then roll them into round balls. Have the kids attach two balls together to form the bunny's head and body with frosting. Cut little ears out of pink construction paper, then attach them with frosting. Use frosting or candy (like jelly beans or M&Ms) to make the bunny's eyes, nose and whiskers. For a final touch, add a glob of frosting to make the bunny's tail.
- Along with its religious significance, Easter's occurrence at the start of spring makes it a celebration of new life. Rice Krispies treat nests are cute snacks that capture the essence of springtime and the beginning of new life. Have an adult plop spoonfuls of the marshmallow and Rice Krispies mixture into a muffin tin, then push down the center with a greased thumb to make a nest-like shape. After letting the nests cool for about 20 minutes, invite the children to fill the nests with peeps, jelly beans and other egg-shaped treats.
