- 1). Clean your vent thoroughly to remove dirt and dust from the surface. Use a lint-free cloth to wipe it down with a standard surface cleaner, or a quick solution of half vinegar, half water. If possible, open the vent to clear out any dust that accumulated inside.
- 2). Paint the outside encasement (if applicable) of the vent, as well as the front grille surface. Apply two coats of a color that closely matches the color of your walls. Do not paint the grille so much that it covers the venting spaces. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly for at least 24 hours.
- 3). Measure the length and width of the vent to find a magnetic vent cover that fits. Magnetic covers look like large refrigerator magnets. Affix the vent cover over the front when the paint is completely dry. Again, find a color for the cover that closely matches your wall, or paint it that color.
