- 1). Put masking tape on the wall and floor alongside the trim on all sides. Lay plastic tarp under it.
- 2). With your brush, and wearing rubber gloves, apply paint stripper, working from the top down. Spread it on generously, in sections of two or three feet.
- 3). Wait a few minutes until the paint starts to bubble up from the chemical action of the stripper. Use your putty knife to scrape it off, dropping it onto the tarp below. Scrape forward, with the direction of the trim, and take care not to gouge the wood. Repeat for the whole span of trim, until it's all bare wood.
- 4). Let the trim dry for an hour. Sand it down by hand to remove the residue from the stripper and to get the surface even. Wipe off the dust from the sanding.
- 5). With a brush, spread on your tinted gloss, going with the grain of the wood. Use small, slow strokes, covering the wood completely. Go back over previous sections frequently looking for drips, and brush them out. Let it dry, then apply a second coat in the same manner.
