In poetry and fairy tales, silver has associations with magic, moonlight and mystery. If you want to adorn your body with chains of this precious metal, you have a wide array of choices. Whether you opt for a plain chain or suspend a pendant from your silver necklace, you will add an indefinable mystic quality to whatever else you wear. - Wavy smooth metal plates combine to create a flexible tube giving this chain the soft, sinuous and supple texture reminiscent of a snake. These chains feel luxurious against the skin. Their elegant simplicity makes them a suitable choice for men's as well as women's jewelery. However, they are more fragile than the various styles of link chains. Snake chains are also sometimes referred to as Brazilian chains.
- Round or oval links of uniform size form the basic link or cable chain style. A variant on this style, the rolo chain, is comprised of rounder, fatter links than those in a cable chain.
- Square links join to form this chain which looks like several small interconnected boxes. The sturdy appearance of this style of chain makes it a favorite for men's necklaces although women may opt for the narrow width versions of box chains.
- Also known as the ball chain, this style consists of several beads or balls of silver strung together. The placement of bead to bead can vary greatly from tightly spaced to chains with more distance between each individual silver ball.
- Oval links tightly joined in a spiral fashion create a rope-like chain style. The woven appearance of the links gives this chain a feeling of richness and solidity. A variant version of this style is the twist rope chain.
- Four strands of oval and twisted oval links braided together make a chain with a great feeling of texture and density.
