- 1). Sketch a shark design onto a piece of paper with a pencil. Think in terms of negative space as you sketch, realizing that the pattern you create for your pumpkin using empty, illuminated space to project a shark design. Alternatively, if you do not want to create your own shark pumpkin design, you can purchase a pre-drawn shark design template for pumpkin carving online.
- 2). Draw a squiggly line through the middle of the paper to represent water surface. Draw the body of a shark below the line with fins outstretched on either side. Sketch a triangle pointed towards the top of the page to represent the shark's head. Draw an open mouth inside of the head and a space for the eye above it.
- 3). Cut the top off your pumpkin and scoop all of the seeds and flesh out. Bake and season the seeds for a savory snack or just throw contents of pumpkin into trash.
- 4). Tape your shark design to your pumpkin and use a punching tool from a pumpkin carving kit to trace the outline of the design onto your pumpkin. Remove the paper from the pumpkin.
- 5). Use a small carving knife from your pumpkin carving kit to cut away all of the spaces that will reveal your shark design. Move gently from one puncture hole to the next, gently pushing the cut pieces into the center of the pumpkin.
- 6). Clean out the inside of the pumpkin. Place a small, folded piece of foil on the bottom center of the inside of your carved pumpkin and set a tea light on top of it. At night, light the candle, place the lid on the pumpkin, stand back and admire your work.
