Some people believe that cutting down on fat is necessary during a weight loss program.
In case you didn't know, there are good fats and bad fats.
The key to effective fat control is cutting down on the dangerous fats and increasing your intake of the good fat.
What you should do is, avoid Trans fat and saturated fat and increase the intake of healthy fats such as polyunsaturated and Omega-3 that are often found in foods like fish and olive oil.
You can now find specific butters, eggs, yogurt and more that have Omega-3 additives as well.
Essential Fats There are certain fats that your body can not produce on its own and they are essential to a healthy body.
They are actually called "essential" fatty acids.
As I said, your body can not make this type of fat therefore, they must be consumed.
This is one of the many reasons why a low-fat diet is not the healthiest method.
Fats also help nutrient absorption and nerve transmission.
When consumed in large amounts, different fats can contribute to weight gain and heart disease.
Some are good for your body and some are bad.
However, some of these fats are absolutely essential as stated above.
Completely knocking all fats out of your diet is completely counterproductive and brutally unsafe.
Types of Fats There are many different types on fats.
One type is called Monosaturated.
These types of fat lower the bad cholesterol and higher the good cholesterol reducing risk of heart disease.
Different nuts such as peanuts, almonds, walnuts as well as olive and canola oil hold this type of fat.
Then there are polyunsaturated fats.
They do the exact same thing as the Monosaturated fats but are found more in seafood, foods with omega 3 and oils such as sunflower oil.
Then there are saturated fats.
These raise the bad cholesterol in your body.
These fats are commonly found in meat and dairy.
Lastly there are trans fats.
These are found in fried foods, margarine and pre-packaged foods.
The Facts It is actually in the U.
S Dietary guidelines that individuals should get up to 30 percent of their calories from fat.
Most fats carry critical vitamins such as vitamin A, D, E and K.
I'm sure you have noticed that millions of people have gone to this low-fat diet situation.
However, obesity in the U.
S has seemingly increased.
Clearly, it's not fat that makes you fat.
Its things such as lack of exercise and not following a proper diet that make you fat.
The less fat you give your body, the more your body tries to store it, including the bad fats.
All in all, some fats are essential to the production of a healthy body, just be careful of the fats you are consuming.
