Gluten and Lactose Free Today

More people today are choosing to be gluten and lactose free. They are concerned about their health and by changing how and what they eat; they are living a healthier life. Unfortunately, for some this change is not an option, it is a must.

Is it a toss-up of which is harder to do? Is it to be gluten free or to be lactose free? If you are just beginning to make the change either way, you will strongly believe that it is indeed difficult. On the contrary, today there are a number of products available that you can purchase at your favorite grocers, a specialty food or health food store.

A Review

As a brief overview, gluten is a type of protein which is a component of both grains and of cereals. In case you didn't know, not all grains contain gluten; buckwheat and the common soybean are both gluten free. Did you know that gluten is a reason why bread rises?

In regards to lactose, it is created from both galactose and glucose and is found in milk. Lactose is a sugar which is created from the condensation that forms when galactose and the glucose are combined together. When the cells that are found in the lining of the small intestine have a deficiency of lactase, the individual becomes lactose intolerant.

In General

If you do not need to be gluten and lactose free, think about your current diet and what you typically buy at the store. How much gluten and lactose do you actually consume every day? The answer is probably something that you would care not to think about.

If you must divert your eyes away from foods that contain gluten and lactose, it will be difficult at first as change always is. It may be trial and error for awhile at first but with direction from your physician and perhaps a nutritionist, you will be gluten and lactose free in no time. When you stop to realize that you actually feel better, you will realize that time has flown by and actually it hasn't even been that long!

Getting Started

Before you bring in the new you need to get rid of the old. To get rid of the gluten in your life, you need to clear everything out of your kitchen and your bathroom too. There are a number of bath and body products that contain gluten. Not only is it time to thoroughly clean your body but your home too.

In regards to becoming lactose free, it is best to read labels and simply think about if the product requires milk to be made. Many processed foods do require milk so again its best to read the label. However, there are a number of wonderful options and alternatives to many of the foods that you currently eat. Making the change will take some practice but I know that you can do it.

There is so much information available today if one must or chooses to be gluten and lactose free. Our health is very important and if we can begin by making little changes, the effects will be life-long. Anyone can be gluten and lactose free; it's easier than you think.
